Parents F.A.Q.

Q: Can family come to visit?
A: We encourage family to come and stay for a weekend while their relatives are going through the course. We allow family members to stay on RAD property if they choose to bring their own camping supplies. There are also several local towns within a 30-mile driving radius with hotel accommodations.

Q: How often will we be in contact via phone or e-mail?
A: We will have specific times set during the first course for telephone and e-mail use. Once the students enter Course Two they will have more free time for communicating with family and friends outside the campus. Regarding cell phones, students may bring one, but will be asked to oblige the same guidelines as other telephone use.

Q: Will any of this experience count toward college credit?
A: Unfortunately, because of RAD’s newness, we have not yet been recognized by many colleges and therefore cannot contribute towards gaining credits. RAD is working with several colleges to bring us to that level.

Q: Will we as parents be contacted if a problem arises?
A: Because your son or daughter is technically an adult if he or she is attending this program, we will have to legally allow him or her to be the one to decide whether or not the parent and/or guardian should be contacted for various reasons. If for some reason a medical problem arises, you will be notified.

Q: Will my son or daughter be coming home for the holidays?
A: We will be planning the course times and dates around what a typical school year would look like. There will be break times and holidays factored in each semester. If you wish to have your child fly or drive home, they’re free to do so as long as they respect the allotted “vacation” time.

Q: What if there is a family emergency? Will that disrupt the training?
A: In the case of a student needing to leave for personal family reasons, we will work with them to assimilate them back into the course with the other students upon return. If the student needs to be away for an extended period, we may advise them to start again during the next semester.

Q: Can family members send mail and/or care packages?
A: We encourage written contact from family and friends while the students are in the program. The nature of the course is “rough” at times, and therefore certain gifts from home may give unfair privileges to certain students. We ask that people use good judgment before sending gifts. Each parent will receive more detailed information regarding these policies upon the acceptance of their son or daughter into RAD.

Q: What is your insurance policy and where is the closest hospital?
A: RAD requires that each student have a personal insurance policy in place before entering the program. These policies will need to be updated and will be checked periodically. The campus and program itself will be covered by sufficient liability insurance. There are several local hospitals within 30 miles of the campus in the event of a medical emergency.

Q: Will the students have access to laundry, bathing and proper housing facilities?
A: Although each course is styled in a unique way, all amenities regarding food, housing, bathing and laundry will be available for each stage of the ministry.

Q: What is your policy regarding dating on campus?

A: There will be no dating between students while attending RAD.

Q: Will my child need spending money and where would they keep it?
A: Yes, everybody will need some extra spending money for a few things (toiletries, weekends, etc.). Depending on what sort of system they choose to put in place will determine how they actually get it. We suggest they bring a smaller amount of cash to keep on their person and then possibly open a checking account with a local bank. Or you as a parent can mail in a check or money order for them periodically.

Q: What if I have another question that I can’t find the answer to?
A: Just give us a call during office hours and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have. 1-770-532-8346
