Letter to Prospective Students (ages 18-26) from KATIE
What is next? High school is over. Maybe college is, too. Now life will really start, right? You’re an adult living in America. There is nothing that you cannot do. There are endless possibilities and resources. You can make your life whatever you want it to be. Do you know yet what that is? Wherever it is you go, you know that God will go with you. You’re ready to throw yourself into everything you’ve ever dreamed of doing, and God will be right there backing you up. But what if what He really wants is for you to COME? You already have an idea in your head of where you’ll be going and you hope He’ll bless it. But what if He wants to show you something? What if He’s just been waiting, hoping that you’ll see – hoping that you’ll STOP. Stop and take a step back. Stop and open your heart. Stop and ask Him to do something. He has been waiting. He has always been there in your world, in the midst of all the emails, phone calls, term papers and work schedules. In the middle of all the missions trips and youth retreats and worship services. He has always fit in there somewhere, wherever He could, wherever your schedule left off. But have you ever fit into His world? Have you ever gone to God on God’s terms? Are you ready for that kind of adventure? God is wild, and He loves to tear through the normal and the status quo. When God moves, He moves radically. He wants to make disciples that move that way with Him.
Radical Action Disciples is a nine month discipleship program designed to get you out of normal. It is about a journey with God. It is about transformation. It consists of three 3-month courses designed to shake you up. Have you ever been in a classroom in the middle of the woods or on top of a mountain?
RAD is surprising – you have to expect the unexpected. How will you handle it? It doesn’t come in an email or a textbook. It can’t be explained in a text message. You can’t plan for it. It just comes. How will you take it? Will you still try to keep God inside a church or a book when He is crashing in around you on all sides?
What is a disciple? Is it someone who walked with Jesus – the guys from all the Bible stories you heard in Sunday school or listened about in a sermon? Were they the early Christians, struggling just to survive after Jesus left? Are they missionaries and pastors and worship leaders like the ones you see every Sunday or hear about in support letters? Or is it YOU? God is waiting for you to realize that you are His disciple. He is waiting for you to realize that you were made to walk with Jesus every day – just like those fishermen who saw miracles. God is ready to move you radically. Will you let Him?
If this sounds like something you are hungry for, then check out RAD. It is intense, and it will take you out of normal. It will challenge you and it will grow you. It will show you a new kind of learning and model a new way of walking. It will surprise you and it may scare you and make you uncomfortable. But it will give you an opportunity – a chance to step back from the drone of normal and step into something radical; a chance to stop trying to manage a life and start moving with the Life – with Jesus.
